Confirmation
Confirmation is the service in which those who are old enough to do so make for
themselves the baptismal promises which were originally made on their behalf
by their parents and godparents. Those who are willing to make such promises - involving
a personal commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ and the Christian way of life - would be
expected to become part of the worshipping life of St Mary's.
A Confirmation Service is always presided over by a bishop who will lay hands on the candidates
praying for an indwelling of the Holy Spirit and the guidance of God in their future lives.
Children's confirmation
Children may be confirmed after their 12th birthday. If they are around
the age of 10 they will join the
Twyglet
group which meets of Sunday
evenings at 6.30pm. St Mary's runs a two-year preparation course
leading to confirmation with the bishop.
Older teenagers
Older teenagers would join the
Twyg
group which meets on Sunday
evenings at 7.30pm. Their preparation course would be shorter and
arranged in discussion with the Vicar.
Adult confirmation
Adults who would like to be confirmed should contact the Vicar who
runs adult confirmation courses from time to time. He will be pleased to
assist you.
